Durante el panel de Crunchyroll Showcase del viernes en Anime Expo 2026, la compañía reveló el primer teaser trailer, imágenes clave, reparto, equipo y una fecha de estreno para enero de 2027 para el anime The Guy She Was Interested In Wasn’t a Guy at All.
Mariya Ise (Made in Abyss, The Promised Neverland) prestará su voz a Mitsuki Koga y se unirá Akari Kito (Demon Slayer) como Aya Osawa. Ambas repiten sus papeles de la adaptación en CD drama de 2024.
CloverWorks (Bocchi the Rock!, Spy x Family) producirá el anime, con Masashi Ishihama (Spy x Family, The Girl Who Leapt through Time) dirigiendo la serie. Kanna Hirayama (Oshi No Ko, My Dress-Up Darling) se encargará del diseño de personajes, con la composición de la serie a cargo de Rino Yamasaki.
El teaser también confirma que la canción de apertura del anime será “Breed” de Nirvana. Durante la revelación, Dave Grohl dijo: “Kurt Cobain habría amado esta serie.”
The Guy She Was Interested in Wasn’t a Guy At All anime is based on the story by Sumiko Arai, which began as a short story on X in 2022 before being serialized on Pixiv Comic and later published in print by Kadokawa and Yen Press.
The story follows high schooler Aya, who falls head over heels for a male employee at the local CD shop who turns out to be her female classmate, Mitsuki. The series follows their growing relationship as they experience life and high school together, while gradually discovering what they mean to one other.
The Guy She Was Interested in Wasn’t a Guy At All will premiere in January 2027 on Crunchyroll.
